Lydia Rene is no stranger to Philly soul music fans. The Philadelphia University alum has stood just off in the wings of the full spotlight for a while, but if you love the genre then you have been familiar with her transcendent lyrics and breezy yet sultry vocal style for quite some time. Her first release, My Love IS My Life, was recorded live in 2008 and showcased to others what we already knew, Lydia was a daughter of Philly's musical family and her sound was ripe with the sweet sensations of what we've all become accustomed to.
Having written songs for artists as iconic as Toni Braxton and Melanie Fiona, Lydia is no stranger to the industry and is poised to break out and reach a level of success to rival those she has had the pleasure of penning music for. Vintage Heart, released February 10, is Lydia's first studio effort and paints us a lush portrait of love and all it's many iterations. Jazzy and bubbly with a heaping helping of funky groove, this album is not to be missed. With so many comparing Lydia Rene to Jill Scott - the two share the same last name but no relation - there is no wonder the buzz on this album is rising so quickly. This has been a powerful few weeks for Philly music.
We can only imagine the great things to come for Lydia, the heart may be vintage but the soul feels fresh and new.
